The Vines
The Vines

The first vines were planted in 1989 and 1990 in the Nursery Block – a little less than 2 acres in area. Its function was as a trial block with ten varieties planted. Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were planted as the potential red varieties and Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as the potential white varieties. All these varieties are used in the production of the wines, and as the oldest vines on the property, yield fruit of exceptional quality.

The Vines

In 2001 two blocks, each of five acres, were planted with Shiraz and Riesling, with the first fruit harvested in 2004. A small amount of Viognier was also planted to be blended with the Shiraz to provide aromatic lift to the wine.

A ‘sticky’ block was planted in 2007 – mostly Semillon and a small proportion of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The intention is to produce a luscious dessert style wine using botrytis affected fruit. The first harvest will probably occur in 2011. This block is about 2 acres.
